Good evening, I’m James Adderley and this is Sports Monday.

The national Football Team embarks on a 2nd International friendly this weekend when they journey to Petén, Guatemala to face their Guatemalan counterparts at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 9th. The last outing saw Belize hold the Trinidad and Tobago national team to a scoreless stalemate on September 10th at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan in a ballgame they could have won from the penalty spot. Belize has never beaten Guatemala at this A-team level and most fans are looking for a change in this equation.

In other football news, Third World Future presents a Day of Fun for footballers in the lake and Collet Divisions this Saturday, October 9th at the St. Martin’s Field beginning at 9 a.m. Deon Flowers and Stanley Reneau are behind this effort. New here are the results of play in BDFL Football over the weekend. Belmopan Blaze and the B.D.F. battled to a 1-1 tie, Toledo Ambassadors shook up the San Pedro Seadogs in a 3-zip affair, and San Felipe Barcelona handled Hankook Verdes in a 2-1 finish while FC Belize burned Griga United 1-zip.

Turning to the softball scene, let us play catch up on the Interoffice Competition currently in session at Rogers Stadium. We join Saturdays match-up between B.E.L. Power Sockets and B.T.L. in the bottom of the 1st with the telephone company down 4-zip.

With a runner at 2nd, Melissa Foreman serves up this hit to Francis Usher. Center fielder, Adrian Torres, fails to handle the long fly, the run comes in and Usher get5s this hit off Foreman to bring in Usher. Nelson Tillett cuts the deficit to a single run with a double that allows him to reach 3rd base on fielder’s choice. In the top of the 2nd, Denise Gillette extends the B.E.L. lead with this hit off Emily Audinett but is tagged out at 2nd trying to extend a single into a double. In the bottom of the inning, Francis Usher beats out this infield single to make it a 5-4 ballgame.

Lupito Acosta then comes with the bases loaded who swings into an infield single that proved to be anything but routine for the B.E.L. defense as B.T.L. takes a 6-5 lead and would score 1 more in this turn at bat to make it 7 to 5. Francis Usher who replaced Emily Audinett on the mound for B.E.L. strikes out Stacey Wade to retire the side without conceding a run. In the next inning, Usher is facing Errol Reneau and he gets this hit pass 1st base to bring in 2 more runs. As of four innings, Belize Telemedia is up 11 to 5.

In the top of the 5th, Usher gives up 4 runs to B.T.L. including these 2 off a ball hit by Adrian Gentle which he should have fielded. The throw to home plate by Otis Clother is missed by the catcher and 2 runs score to make it 13-9. The bases are loaded for B.T.L. in the 6th when Gregg Kerr hits this pitch from Emily Audinett to the short stop to cap a 3 run swing and make it a 13-12 score. However, B.T.L. explodes for 6 more runs in the bottom of the 6th which gives them a 19-13 big win as we say good show.
