Francis Reneau concert set for September 12th

Story PictureAll the bad news and the acts of violence reported earlier in this newscast may have put a damper on this year’s September celebrations but there is still a full calendar of events and reason to celebrate. One activity to look forward to is the Francis Reneau concert. News Five dropped by the Bliss today to catch up with Reneau and find out what we can expect when he takes to the stage tomorrow night.

Francis Reneau, Composer
“This is perhaps, I would say, a more classical concert; different styles of music, not just the classical but jazz is in it as well as I said the Choral Society is performing some folk songs which I arranged. So it’s a little bit much more varied than my normal concerts which would be just me. It’ll be more interesting I think. I have written a particular…a piece on folks on the folk song “Ping Wing Juk Mi” which is a rag time version of it and I have my usual variations on the Belize national anthem which I always play at this time of year.”

“I think everything in it is good. I think the Pallotti Strings are doing some very wonderful things and I’m quit pleased about them being here. And so are the Choral Society. I think this year, I would say, it is a whole effort together.”

In addition to the anticipated performance by the renowned pianist, the concert will include presentations by music students who were trained over a four week period by Reneau himself, the Pallotti Strings and the Belize Choral society. The concert takes place this Friday at the Bliss. Tickets can be bought at CY’s Music, the Record shack, and the Bliss for fifteen dollars general admission and twenty dollars reserved. The concert is being organised with the support of NICH and the Pallotti School of Music.
