After a party, Anicee Lamaroux joins her new parents in Denver

anicee lamaroux

After two months in Belize finalizing her adoption, young Anicee Lamaroux headed to her new home in Denver, Colorado this past Wednesday. Before leaving, a party was held to celebrate her seventh birthday.  CARE Belize and the Liberty Foundation joined Friends from Radisson in the celebration. Healthy Living was there for an update from Chris and Lisa, the parents of the brave young girl.

Marleni Cuellar reporting

Six weeks ago, we first introduced you to the larger than life personality of Anicee Lamaroux. She danced and sang for our camera without any holdback. She exemplified a little girl with an unbreakable spirit. On Monday July fifth, Anicee celebrated a very special birthday.

Marleni Cuellar

How old are you today?

Anicee Lamaroux

“Seven.”

Marleni Cuellar

And you sang Happy Birthday?

Anicee Lamaroux

“Aha”

Marleni Cuellar

Mhmm.  Did you make the wish?

Anicee Lamaroux

“Yes”

Marleni Cuellar

What was the wish?

Anicee Lamaroux

“But I can’t tell you.”

Marleni Cuellar

Why?

Anicee Lamaroux

“Cause it will go away.”

And one natural wish of children is to grow up in a loving family and environment. Incidentally, her birthday celebration is just two days before she relocates to Colorado with her adoptive parents. Like Anicee, Lisa & Chris were both born with osteogenesis imperfecta. Having spent the past two months in Belize finalizing her adoption they are most eager to start their new life. Anicee’s party was befitting the celebration. The gathering was organized by her friends at the Radisson who have developed a special relationship with Anicee and her family.

Efrain Moguel, sales manager, Radisson

“We’ve been working along with them and the parents for about two months they’ve been here a whole and they have become like family to us.  And basically, we just wanted them to go out with a bang. They’re basically leaving on Wednesday and we wanted her to enjoy her time with her friends and family. Her friends from liberty and her friends from the hotel and different people they’ve met throughout they’re stay here in Belize.”

Marleni Cuellar

What has this process been like for you, coming to Belize and being able to finalize the adoption for Anicee?

Chris Lamaroux, Anicee’s Father

“It’s been very rewarding we’ve been here a very long time. But we’ve been here long enough to get to know your country Belize is a beautiful place and we’ve gotten to bond with Anicee and see  all of her friends and see where she is from. It’s been a great time”

Chris & Lisa used some of the time spent in Belize to visiting children with special needs. They linked with a local NGO to facilitate the process.

Marleni Cuellar

I understand that while you guys were here you were doing some work with CARE Belize and children with disabilities. Tell me a little bit about what you did.

Chris Lamaroux,

“Evan took us around to a couple of preschools and introduced us to the teachers and some of the children with disabilities or special needs and then took us down meet a child who has osteoporosis imperfecta, in Hopkins, and we got to meet her and they came to visit here for a night here at the Radisson. And Anicee and Destiny played together and bonded a little bit”

Marleni Cuellar

What was that experience like for you?

Lisa Ferrerio, Anicee’s Mother

“It was so great, you know, hopefully we can be an impact on the family as much as possible and show them what’s possible for Destiny and I hope that’s true. They see Chris and how he plays tennis and how we both drive and all the fun and exciting things that we can do and you know they never knew that was possible.”

But of course, the culmination of their time in Belize is representative of the start of their brand new life.

Marleni Cuellar

I hear you mommy and daddy are going to be leaving soon. Is that true?

Anicee Lamaroux,

“Mhmm.”

Marleni Cuellar

And how do you feel about that?

Anicee Lamaroux,

“Good.”

Marleni Cuellar

Are you excited?

Anicee Lamaroux,

“Yea”

Marleni Cuellar

Yeah? And your ready to se your brand home?

Anicee Lamaroux,

“Mhmm”

Marleni Cuellar

What else are you excited about?

Anicee Lamaroux,

“The dogs.”

Marleni Cuellar

What’s next for your guys?

Lisa Ferrerio,

“Well, we’re just gonna be getting home. I think its going to be a shock initially for all of us because we’ve been here so long so we just want to get reacquainted with everything there and she’s very anxious to meet all of our family there and the dogs and see her rooms and all that kind of thing.”

Marleni Cuellar

You guys have had a little bit of time with Anicee so far. Who’s going to be the tougher parent and who’s going to be the softball?

Chris Lamaroux,

“I think I’m going to be the softy.”

Lisa Ferrerio,

“That’s true. Yes.”

Marleni Cuellar

And Lisa you’re the disciplinarian.

Lisa Ferrerio,

“I’m a little bit tougher than Chris is yes”

It’s not a sad farewell for her friends in Belize as the possibilities of many fulfilled potential lies ahead for Anicee.

Lisa Ferrerio,

“She’s an amazing girl that we’ve spent all this time with so far and she’s just fantastic. So that’s what we hope.”

Chris Lamaroux,

“She’s a very bright girl. It’ll be really fun to raise her and I’m excited to see what she can be and do.”

Marleni Cuellar

What did you tell your friends before you leave?

Anicee Lamaroux,

“Goodbye and thank you.”

I remember this story very well and how it touched me deeply.

This innocent child was givien away by her mother, A mmother who did not deserved to bear a child.

what a relief to see her smiling in all her glory, and innocence, this is a consolation.

    be well Anicee…………………….

What procedures if any do these foreigners go through prior to adopting our Belizean Kids. Also why can’t some of these kids be adopted by some of our financially stable Belizeans? There are wealthy people in Belize who can give this little girl a good life. She been adopted by Americans doesn’t necessarily mean that she is going to have a better life.

  4. Proud Belizean says:

sweet story. hope this is the beginning of something big for this special angel. God Bless Chris & Lisa and of course Anicee

  5. kruffs says:

Great story! Wish them de best. @ Elgin – the story is not about the adoption but about people with disabilities. Read the first story to understand it fully and maybe you’ll rethink your statements. http://edition.channel5belize.com/?p=33214

This child has special needs, she need need special attention, and sooner than later she will need money to see special doctors, she is in good hands with her american family now, people can simply understand what that child need or want.

belizeans are too busy killing, stealing, ploting, etc, etc to want to give a darn about this little angel or anyone else.

I am glad she was adopted by the americans, be well Anicee.
