Michael Finnegan is back, cancer free and on the road to recovery

michael finnegan

As we told you, Housing Minister and Mesopotamia Area representative, Michael Finnegan is back in the Jewel. Finnegan was gone for at least two months for treatment for prostate cancer at the Harper University Hospital in Detroit. Since he was diagnosed with cancer, Finnegan has been publically speaking about this deadly disease. When he touched down at the Philip Goldson International Airport this afternoon, he gave our News Five Team a detailed, albeit explicit explanation of his experience and his recovery. Though we would like to air it all, we can only give you a sample of Finnegan in his own words.

Michael Finnegan, Minister of Housing

“I gone through hell. It was a frightening experience. But here I am. God is not ready for me yet. He has given me a second chance.”

Jules Vazquez, Channel 7

“You consider yourself a cancer survivor?”

Michael Finnegan

“Yeah, yes I am a cancer survivor.”

Jose Sanchez

“Is it in total remission?”

Michael Finnegan

“That’s what the doctor said because they judge it by your PSA and when I went up there I had a PSA of some eight point six four; and after the whole surgery my PSA is zero point two. I am here; but I will be at home away from public life for about two weeks, because there is a lot of sewing inside my abdomen, lotta things have been stitched together etcetera. Doctors believe that stress can interfere with that. Stress can give you constipation and constipation can create havoc within my body. I have been advocating for cancer for quiet some years on my television show, advising people that they need to screen their body and this is why I am alive today; and this is why I am alive today because I have been screening my body for probably the last nine ten years.”

Jules Vasquez

“Ok I know your famous cook, what is the first home cooked meal that you will be looking forward to? Pigtail?”

Michael Finnegan

“ Bwai, Me and you wah haffu organize something ina di week Jules, I gah bout wah ten pound ah cow foot  home downstairs. So, you know, I might –today dah wat ? Friday?—I might probably bubble it Sunday yo know? I wah call  yo mek yo come come ova. I wah call Jose.”

When asked what he missed most about Belize, he said the people of Mesop and Diane, the misses.

Mr. Finnegan, how come you didn’t get treated by the Cuban doctors at home? Is it because they playing doctor on the people of Belize?

Or is it because you can’t get treated in Belize? I think it’s both.

How do you think the Belizean people feel when their love ones die because of poor health care?

All you politicians are out for yourselves.

  2. mbrad says:

If you are a politicians or have money (rich), you can afford to pay for health.

If you are poor or broke (no have $), then you will just have to die….
