Andy P’s birthday celebrated with book release

Story PictureAndy Palacio passed away earlier this year on January twenty-fourth at the peak of his musical career. He continues to be missed nationally and globally for his impact on world music and the cultural journey on which he took the Garifuna and rest of the jewel. He would have turned forty-eight today and so on this occasion, a publication, Andy Palacio, was released. Duane Moody was at the Image Factory, which was overflowing with family, friends and fans.

Duane Moody, Reporting
He was a pioneer in the music industry and the performing arts and to capture the local and international flavor of the Belizean icon, Andy Palacio, his Foundation in collaboration with the Image Factory and international cultural centers, put on paper a book which epitomizes Andy’s life and cultural history.

Yasser Musa, Editor and Publisher, Andy Palacio
“This book is a combination of elements that include essays, reflections, a timeline, speeches, magazine clippings, photographs and quotes. It is a starting template of our great cultural and artistic musician and leader. It is meant to inspire and educate.”

Dr. Joseph Palacio, Founding Member, Andy Palacio Foundation
“This book is a combination of art, personal reflection, love and a rededication to the mission of Andy Palacio. Andy left us even before he built or continued to build what he really, really wanted to do. Here we have a book and that book is to continue on that tradition, continue in the tradition of building a tradition. This is what this book is about—building a tradition.”

According to President, Roy Cayetano, the Andy Palacio Foundation has decided to observe this day every year, because today is his birthday.

Roy Cayetano, President, Andy Palacio Foundation
“We want to ensure that the work and the legacy of this great man are not forgotten and that his contribution to Belize and his culture are fully appreciated and that he is officially accorded the status that we believe he has earned and that the people of Belize, the people themselves have granted him as we saw on that wet January morning in Baranco when he put his mortal remains to rest at the end of his earthly journey. We would like you to assist us in marking this day in Belizean history.”

To many Andy lived through his music. Eleven months after his passing, his memories resonate within the hearts of Belizeans.

Kami Palacio, Daughter of Andy Palacio
“I helped Yasser in many ways possible …excuse me…by providing pictures of my dad Andy Palacio while he was in his boy age. We the children of Andy are grateful to all those who have made this book possible. Uncle Roy, I will be waiting for the Garifuna version and I know Andy will too. While writing my little speech, I wondered if I’m really ready to see a book about my father’s past. I must say, to every time I think about it, I get sad because I’m still waiting for him to show up to my door. With this special book launched today, it gives me another reason to realise that he is gone for real. Happy birthday daddy from all of us.”

Happy Birthday, Andy Palacio. Duane Moody reporting for News Five.

The Andy Palacio Book is on sale at the Image Factory at a cost of forty dollars.
