New Punta artist releases “Bash Tonight”

Story PictureYou talk about Punta rock and chances are that you will get in the groove. Punta Rock is tremendously popular and it springs from the Garifuna culture. And now there is Bash Tonight, a new music CD that captures the essence of that culture. Twenty year old Silas Sabal, with the help of Griga-tainment, is stepping up the stage. His role models are Supa G and the late Andy Palacio and Sabal intends to take Punta rock to another level. His album has a mix of music in different languages. According to Sabal, he has been joined by Supa G, Mark Pascual and Tyler Savery in this CD.

“It has paranda, it has souls, slow Punta, fast Punta. The parandas are very positive. You know I talk about our roots and culture like my Garifuna culture for us not to forget it because everyday the Garifuna people are dying. So I’m telling the younger ones please don’t forget our language, don’t forget our culture. And also I speak about issues like with money, social issues and those stuff. Here I’m thinking what am I gonna do, I have no money, where am I gonna get a job. That’s the other paranda song and also the Punta song is about teenage pregnancy and so. It says can you hear the song of an innocent baby and a beautiful lady. It’s saying boys treat the ladies right. They’re not just for making babies. Give them a chance to see their future. So songs like that I’m trying to bring out to the public. Of course, I have some party songs on the side, but mostly my aim is to get to the public with these songs.”

If you would like to purchase Bash Tonight, copies are available at DJ Tambran, Venus Photos and Records and Record Shack here in Belize City and at Gems Photo Shop and the bus terminal in Dangriga.
