Ryan Alvarez found guilty for one of his illegal firearm offences

Ryan Alvarez

Ryan Alvarez

Last September fourth, eighteen year-old Ryan Alvarez was busted by the cops when they retrieved a firearm that he allegedly threw over a fence near Castle Street. In court today, two main witnesses for the prosecution, P.C. David Griffith and Corporal Renaldo Bruhier said that they both spotted Alvarez riding a bicycle in front of their mobile on the day of the incident.  In their testimonies, both officers said that Alvarez also ran into an open lot, jumped a fence then threw an object. When they caught up with him and returned to the area, the cops found the firearm. Alvarez, who testified this morning, told the court that he was set up by the police and that the gun belonged to his cousin who was with him at the time. Magistrate Sharon Frazer was not convinced because there were holes in his testimony and found Alvarez guilty and sentenced him to two years in prison.  Alvarez, who was unrepresented during his trial, is presently on remand for another firearm offense and would have been released in three months. His two year sentence takes effect beginning today.
