Mayor may still be subject to disciplinary proceedings

Story PictureThe court awarded Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya Flowers two of three injunctions she filed against the United Democratic Party. On December seventeenth, Justice Minnet Hafiz ruled that the U.D.P. could no longer exclude Moya Flowers from attending its National Party Council meetings. It was seen as a major victory, but a release from the U.D.P.’s legal advisor, Michael Young, says it was a far cry from a victory. Young states QUOTE “You may score a goal but lose the game. In making the application from the court, Mrs. Flowers’ real objective was to prevent the U.D.P. from continuing or commencing any process for disciplinary proceedings against her and this vanquish the U.D.P.’s capacity to exercise any powers in that respect whilst the case is pending.”END QUOTE. Young goes on by saying that the Party can take steps to exercise its powers under the U.D.P.’s constitution to investigate and cause disciplinary proceedings to be conducted.
