…While police entertain the elderly at Sister Cecilia Home
The homeless were not the only ones who got a Christmas treat today. The forty three residents at the Sister Cecilia Home for the Elderly also had some good old entertainment and turkey dinner this evening, courtesy of the Belize Police Department. The treats come as part of the Community Policing Unit’s fifth Christmas outreach. The event proved to be fun-filled for both officers and senior citizens.
Sgt. Dehanne Williams, Head, Community Policing Unit
“Many of times our elderly are the forgotten ones and this is playing two roles. One role is showing the police in a different light and remembering that our elderly are our future and our present and our past.”
Marion Ali
“Why is this important for the Police Department? You’ve always been criticized as being brutal, you abuse your power, you beat up people. Why is this important?”
Sgt. Dehanne Williams
“Sometimes I think the community have no knowledge about the other work that the officers they do.”
Rose Armstrong, Supervisor, Sr. Cecilia Home for the Elderly
“They usually come and have party where they interact with the resident and they entertain them with music and karaoke and then they serve them their evening meal. They are treated just as if they were at home with their family.”
The oldest resident at the Sr. Cecilia Home for the Elderly is ninety three years old.
