“The Ministry of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation has interest in both the blue economy as well as the civil aviation aspect of COP28. As you know in terms of the ocean, we fully acknowledge the threat to our blooming blue economy because we recognize that as we as a country on the larger economy potential of our ocean. We also recognize that in this sense that our economy can be threatened by climate change. We also know the impacts of coastal areas and fisheries and so forth and we feel that being here gives us that opportunity not only to be informed with the most recent information available for also to network with key partners. Our focus is not only looking at opportunities for support financial but really to find the kind of technical support that we need as a country. With regards with civil aviation, I will be participating in the global aviation forum which specifically focuses on climate change and aviation as it relates to fuel emissions, the threats. As a small country we don’t really have any responsibility as such to the emission but we are able to benefit from the carbo credits that can be made available to build our aviation industry. So for us it is important to be part of the discussions. It is very important for us to be here, interacting, sharing the Belize experience as it relates to the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation.”
