Powerhouse Teacher, Unionist Margaret Enriquez Passes

The Ministry of Education and B.N.T.U. members are mourning the death of sixty-year-old Margaret Enriquez. Enriquez died on November thirteenth due to health conditions. Her sudden passing shocked those who knew the retired teacher. She touched the lives of many, including students at United Evergreen Primary School and Saint Martin’s Government School. The ministry says that Enriquez’s lifelong dedication and passion for shaping young minds will always be remembered and cherished. Also remembering the good work that Enriquez did was former B.N.T.U. President, Elena Smith.

“Very sad day for us and untimely indeed. Miss Margaret is one of our strong soldiers, has been one of our strong soldiers, and anybody who knows her will tell you that at every union function, she’s there. I cannot tell you in all my 38 years if I’ve ever seen her not attend a union function. She has served us in the Belmopan branch as well as an executive officer for quite a number of years. She’s always the person who is willing to, you know, give advice, give suggestions, assist the new officers when they come in and they might need assistance in terms of if they are new to the union and they don’t know what to do, she’s always there. But I’ve also found that. She has this, this soft spokenness about her, but don’t let that fool you because she could be very forceful when she has her, her, her ideas and, and, and, you know, um, her thoughts and how she feel about certain situations. And so when we’re discussing union matters, she is not afraid to stand up.”
