Man who knocked down couple charged for fatality

Story PictureAnd before the courts, the Honduran taxi driver who knocked down a couple on the Burrell Boom Road at around seven o’clock on Saturday night was arraigned today. Fifty-six year old Manuel Dubon and his common-law-wife fifty-four year old Eva Gomez were riding bicycles heading to church when they were hit from behind by a 1995 Nissan Sentra car. Dubon died instantly from severe head injuries while Gomez suffered a broken shoulder and ankle. The accident was a hit and run but thirty-two year old Juan Rodriguez handed himself over to police later that night. He was read five charges in the presence of his attorney, Arthur Saldivar, when he appeared before Magistrate Aretha Ford. Those are Manslaughter by Negligence, Causing Death by Careless Conduct, Grievous Harm, Driving Without Due Care and Attention and Failure to Stop and Render Assistance; all indictable offences. Rodriguez was granted bail of five thousand dollars and is now awaiting a preliminary inquiry to determine if the case will be heard at the Supreme Court level.
