Flag Raising Ceremony at Sir Edney Cain Building in Belmopan

In the spirit of September Celebrations, government officials gathered this morning in front of the Sir Edney Cain Building in Belmopan for a flag raising ceremony. The building houses the Office of the Prime Minister in Belmopan. Students from the United Evergreen Primary School were also in attendance as invited guests. Here is more from the event.

“An important part of these celebrations, and I know the young people are going to be thinking carnival, when you go marching through the streets of Belize City and also for Orange Walk on the twenty-first. So I take the opportunity to put in a plug on behalf of the mayor of Orange Walk to invite you to come to Orange Walk and celebrate. But the important part of this celebration is to reflect and think of who we are as a nation. And the best symbolism of whom we are as a nation is our national flag. The national flag is a symbol of our nation’s freedom. Our desire to live in a democratic nation and it is a symbol that unites all of us.”

“I sense as we embark on this month of celebration that there is a spirit of optimism, of hope, and if we work together, I believe we can fulfill that hope. We are all called upon to do more and be more for Belize. And I want to especially close by thanking the young people for being here, our students. We are very proud of you, all the work we do in Belize, all the ground work of those who came before us is really about your future to ensure we pass on a stronger and better Belize, a Belize we can all love.”
