L.A.P.D. busted shipping illegal guns to Belize

And a cop believed to be a Belizean with the L.A.P.D. who allegedly owns a private security firm in Belize surrendered to U.S. authorities today after he was indicted for attempting to illegally export guns to Belize. Press reports in Los Angeles say that fifty year old Johnny Augustus Baltazar is the owner of Elite Security located on Hutson Street. While Baltazar, according to the reports, was placed on administrative leave by the Los Angeles Police Department last year, is named in an indictment handed down by a federal grand jury on October twenty-third. Baltazar is charged with one count of unlawful interstate transportation of a firearm and ammunition. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted and seized the weapons at L.A. International Airport. According to the indictment, Baltazar sought to ship a container packed with firearms and ammunition to Belize. The weapons included eight point forty caliber handguns and two nine millimeter handguns along with more than fifteen hundred rounds of ammunition. U.S. investigators believe the weapons were intended for use by officers with Elite Security. But Baltazar did not have the required licenses to export the firearms and he is now awaiting a department administrative discipline hearing. The maximum penalty for the violation charged in the indictment is five years in prison. News Five attempted to contact Elite Security, but no one answered our call. When we visited the building we found that the sign had been taken down and a security guard employed with another security firm told us that for months now Elite Security personnel have only been reporting to work at night.
