Ellis Arkliss is Shot During Armed Robbery

Ellis Arkliss

There was a robbery near mile twelve on the George Price Highway on Friday that resulted in an employee of Grace Kennedy Belize being injured by gunshots.  Ellis Arkliss and his sidemen were en route to Belize City when they were ambushed by several persons inside a vehicle.  The men fired multiple shots at the cargo truck which careened into a nearby ditch.  The sidemen fled into the nearby bushes unscathed, however, Arkliss was wounded.  The culprits then stole a black knapsack containing personal items.  Prompt police response led to the getaway car being intercepted on the John Smith Road.  Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero provides additional details.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander, Eastern Division

“Police responded to a robbery shooting on the [George Price] Highway.  Upon their arrival on the scene, Ellis Arkliss had received gunshot injuries.  Information is that he was driving a Grace Kennedy truck along with two other male persons who were in the truck when a male person came on the road and fired shots in his direction.  He received gunshot injuries and thereafter the truck came to the side of the road.  Police responded and intercepted the car used in the robbery on the John Smith Road.  Three male persons exited the car and made good their escape.  Arkliss is at the Belize Medical Associates in a stable condition at this time, investigation into this matter continues.”

“Have police been able to establish who was the owner of that vehicle?”

Hilberto Romero

“Yes, we’ve established who is the owner of that vehicle.  The vehicle had been reported stolen a week prior.”

“And the men, any idea where these men are from?”

Hilberto Romero

“No, we are presently trying to establish who they are.”
