Police officer recovering from gunshot wound

Story PicturePrivate Constable Donald Pinelo, who was shot while in the line of duty, is still admitted at the K.H.M.H. in stable condition. Pinelo was shot last Saturday in the Calla Creek Area near Arenal Village adjacent to the Belize-Guatemalan border in the west. Following reports of armed masked men roaming the area, Pinelo and three other officers headed in a private vehicle to the community. They were approached by two men who pointed guns at them. The bandits were then joined by four others and when the officers attempted to flee, the gunmen fired several shots at them, one hit Pinelo in the right shoulder. San Ignacio police confirmed that Pinelo is on his way to recovery.

Inspector Dinsdale Thompson, Deputy O.C., San Ignacio Police
“Reports from the doctor clearly indicates that he is okay and we are expecting him to be released very shortly. Upon arrival in Belize City, the doctor has concluded that his condition was stable and so we still hoping that it remains along that area and increase for better and further healing as well.”

No arrests have yet been made but the local police department has enlisted the support of Guatemalan police to help solve this crime.
