Miranda brothers charged with handling stolen goods from UB

Story PictureSometime between September and October of 2008, the kitchen of the University of Belize on Freetown Road was cleaned out—the culprits took almost everything including a freezer. The items were later found inside the home of two brothers: forty-two year old Herman Miranda Sr. and thirty-six year old Ronald Miranda, who were subsequently charged with Handling Stolen Goods. Today, Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb-McKenzie found the brothers guilty of the crime and they both escaped jail time when she imposed a non-custodial sentence upon them. While Ronald had been charged with one count of Handling Stolen Goods, Herman was charged with two counts and as a result, were fined one thousand five hundred dollars and three thousand dollars respectively. The brothers have until December second to pay their fines or in default will spend eighteen months behind bars for each count.
