City Council Director of Finance clinging to life

Story PictureDwain Davis, the Director of Finance for the Belize City Council, is clinging to life tonight at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Davis appeared in court today where his case was adjourned. After leaving the courthouse, Davis called his wife to tell her about the case and that was when he was hit with a massive stroke. Davis was in the company of Ryan Swift, who took him to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Outside the emergency area, Davis’ wife and mother-in-law were joined by Mayor Moya Flowers, her husband and other city council employees. Tears were shed as the group received the news that though doctors were able to lower Davis’ blood pressure, the damage to his brain had already been done. The stroke caused a rapid loss of brain function due to the disturbance to the blood supply. City Councillor Phillip Willoughby told News Five that he was shocked to hear of Davis’ condition.

Councillor Phillip Willoughby, Friend of Dwain Davis
“It has been some time now that I have known Mister Davis.”

Jose Sanchez
“His prognosis is not good, it was a massive stroke. What can you say about that?”

Phillip Willoughby
“Well, since the time at UB, he was a respectful lecturer, very kind hearted and understanding. It totally came out of left field when I got the shocking news this morning about what has transpired and of all, speechless but I feel for him, hope he’s not suffering. I will probably go over to the hospital the hospital this evening to visit.”

Jose Sanchez
“The media has only covered the under-depositing and the going ons at City Hall. Do you think that is a fair representation of who he is in the spotlight?”

Phillip Willoughby
“For all the good—whatever the perception is, could not over shadow the good but I am certain that his family within UB will cherish all those moments and valuable time. Even if he recovers, you have a stroke, you’re limited in certain instances. Depending on the stroke, if he gets back, family at Central Bank, that’s a hard blow for them, because he was close with several with employees, mein, he represented the bank in various capacities traveling and so forth. So again, that’s sad.”

The family was very upset over the recent events which could have lead to his rapidly deteriorating health. Davis was recently charged along with members of his finance team and the Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya Flowers for uttering false documents. Davis was charged with twenty-two counts of uttering false documents for twenty two receipts valued at seventy dollars each that allegedly came from the Esso gas station at mile two on the Northern Highway. The other two charges against him was failure to comply with city regulations. Davis pleaded not guilty to the charges. When News Five last spoke to family members, they were preparing for the worst.
