Barrow Doubles Down on Harsh Criticism of House Speaker

Moses Shyne Barrow

When we caught up with the Opposition Leader outside of the National Assembly building, he was asked whether he believes that he crossed a lined when he referred to the Speaker of the House in the manner that he did in his response. Barrow defended his comments and said that what he wrote is his honest truth.

Paul Lopez

“Do you think you crossed a line when you referred to her in the manner you did in her capacity in the seat and her ability to perform in that seat?”

Moses Shyne Barrow, Leader of the Opposition

“What we have to understand, the standing order in the House of Representatives that govern the House of Representatives were written back in 1966. If they want to change the standing orders to say that when I leave the House of Representatives in my communication with the speaker I have to talk with her in a certain way, that is something the majority has the power to do. But this is a free society and I have free speech, that is why when I leave the house, if I say something defamatory I will be liable. But in the house I have immunity, so there are different laws that guides inside the house and outside the House. So this idea of me communicating the speaker outside the house should be governed by the rules of the house is preposterous. I am happy that she read what I wrote to here because it is my honest truth. I believe that there is a pattern here.”
