Jamaican national flees after being busted with weed

And a Jamaican national who absconded in December of 2008 after he was busted with a stash of marijuana was today convicted and sentenced in absencia. Even though he is not in Belize, fifty-three year old Eric Mills received a three year jail term plus a fine of ten thousand dollars, in default, an additional three years in prison. The businessman of Freetown Road was found with over four pounds of weed in May of 2008 and was charged with Drug Trafficking. Mills was offered and met bail of ten thousand dollars. The matter was adjourned twice but by his third court date in December, Mills failed to show up in court. Magistrate Sharon Frazer ordered that a warrant be issued for Mills’ committal to the Hattieville Prison if he ever sets foot back in Belize.
