Police release men who were detained after murder

Story PictureBusinessman Jason Coombs was shot at close range on Wednesday evening. The well executed murder has left police baffled over a motive as the thirty eight year old businessman was not known to have any enemies. While police detained six men shortly after the slaying, they were released today for a lack of evidence. The only lead is that of a witness who reportedly saw the murder unfold. According to reports, that person saw the driver of the gold colored Toyota Corolla which was used in the homicide, park the vehicle on Malcolm Street; then got out and walked down a dirt road leading towards Faber’s Road. But locating that person is like finding a needle in a haystack. Establishing a motive also has the investigators perplexed because Coombs has no criminal record. So the answers to the questions of ‘Who would want him dead?’ and ‘Why?’ are unknown. Jason Coombs owned and operated PreCom Limited, a construction company located adjacent to the Belize Customs Department in Port Loyola. Police say just before five on Wednesday evening, Coombs was shot at close range by someone in the Toyota Corolla after it entered the compound. A memorial service for Coombs will be held on Sunday in Belize City and he will be laid to rest in Florida.
