Truckloads of food donated to Liberty Foundation

Story PictureInsurance Awareness Week ended today with a health fair at the B.T.L. Park. The week of activities highlighted the importance of life insurance in particular since just over forty thousand persons are insured nationwide. To close the activities, organizations including the Kidney and Diabetes Associations, the Cancer Society, the Red Cross and several insurance companies. But the highlight of the day was the donation of two huge truck loads of food items to the Liberty Foundation.

Judy McCutcheon, President, BELAIFA
“This is Insurance Awareness Week and this week what we wanted to do was to bring awareness to the public, education actually, to the public about insurance, its purpose and the importance it plays in our lives. As part of that week of activities, we wanted to do some community service and what we chose was to do a food drive for Liberty Children’s Home in Ladyville. So what we did was some supermarkets gave us permission to place some carts and some of our agents were there asking the patrons as they shop to please buy an item of food and put it in our cart so that we can donate it. So it was a really, really successful event. It was truly, truly successful so what we’re doing now is we’re presenting the food to Mrs. Delfena Mitchell, who is the director of Liberty Children’s Home.”

Delfena Mitchell, Director, Liberty Foundation
“I am very, very touched and grateful because, as you know Duane, Liberty has been struggling financially for the past few months and it has been very, very stressful trying to make ends meet with just very little finance. The food is going to go a long way wit providing nutritious meals for the children and it really warms my heart and touches my heart to see that people are finally coming forward to do what little they can to help.”
