Mayor Wagner Stands by Endorsement Request

Bernard Wagner

Applications for municipal elections are coming up soon and Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner is sticking to his guns. He wants to be endorsed as the PUP mayoral candidate for the city and not go to a convention. As we’ve reported, there are at least three persons who have expressed interest in contesting the mayoral candidacy; several of them are current councillors. This evening when the media caught up with Mayor Wagner, he remained unwavering in his endorsement position.

Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor

“I still stand by my position, but there is a process and you have to comply with the process. I am a law-abiding citizen, I believe in the democratic process and so if that election process starts then I have to engage.”

“Have you spoken with your party in that regard?”

Bernard Wagner

“We have on several occasions and I have indicated to them my position in respect to some of the projects that I have that I still want to shepherd and to have that continuity in terms of those projects.”

Duane Moody

“Sir I am sure you are aware that some of the aspirants are coming from your same councillors at this point in time.”

Bernard Wagner

“Again, I can’t knock anyone for wanting to aspire. As a matter of fact, I always encourage people to aspire and to dream and to seek out what they really want to do in life. But I can’t stop that. I give my position and it will be certainly up to the party to see what direction they want to go.”

Duane Moody

“And so if that endorsement does not come, would it maybe then push you to go for becoming an area rep, central government sooner than later?”

Bernard Wagner

“You di look too far ahead mien. I noh even contemplate any of that yet. When that happens and if the party goes that direction, then we take it from there.”
