The Role of the Diaspora in Constitutional Reform
There are thousands of Belizeans living in the diaspora who contribute to the development of the country and the revision process will ensure that they too are counted. But what is the role of the diaspora in constitutional reform? P.C.C. Chair Anthony Chanona responded to this question.
Anthony Chanona, Chair, People’s Constitution Commission
“We were fortunate to team up and they will be making a presentation tomorrow. There are nine influencers in diaspora Intercontinental United States. There is diaspora in all other regions – Mexico, Europe – but we chose to begin there as a start and then we are going to be partnering with the Ministry of Tourism and Diaspora Relations to sign an MOU where we can partner with the data. So tomorrow, we have Erlin Pitts, Ray Gongora and Doctor Caroline Genitri that will be making a presentation on how this relationship can begin to be able to capture the data of what is the diaspora saying. There are at a different level than where we are, but they are Belizeans and their voices must be recorded and heard.”
