Jules Vasquez Wins First Belize Prize for Investigative Journalism

The Belize Prize for Investigative Journalism held its inaugural award ceremony on Saturday evening at the House of Culture here in Belize City.  Short-listed for the award were three journalists, including News Five’s Marion Ali, Seven News Director Jules Vasquez and Cherisse Halsall.  Marion’s investigative piece took a critical look at the contraband trade and its economic impact on the country.  Jules’ story probed the many flaws with the construction of the David McKoy Building in Belmopan and Cherisse focused on the hustling taking place outside of the Immigration Department.  All three stories were excellent in writing, production and presentation, but in the end, the award-winning story was the piece on David McKoy Building.  We say congratulations to Jules Vasquez on the win.  We also say job well done to our colleague Marion Ali and Cherisse Halsall.
