Belize Extends Tourism Product to Mexico
The Ministry of Tourism and B.T.B. continue to aggressively promote Belize as a premier tour destination in the region. According to Minister Mahler, a new marketing agency has been brought onboard to attract visitors from neighboring Mexico.
Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism
“My focus is to create Belize as a hub and so the partnership with Tropic is important as well. We have flights into some of the Central American cities and we’re working on Mexico. You have almost a hundred and twenty million Mexicans next door, a lot of them dive. Like forty million Mexicans travel each year internationally, that is just as Americans travel and so it’s a key market. We have hired a new marketing agency for the region and for Mexico, and so that is a focus that we’re putting in right now. Also, we have just introduced the Mexican card whereby Mexicans can also get a card and travel around the country for seven days at least.”

“You mentioned Tropic. Tropic had recently, in the past they flew to Chetumal and also to Merida, but they had complained about the taxes. I know that at the conference for airlift recently, you had joked about the fact that the people who can make that decision were there. Is there any update on those taxes?”
Anthony Mahler
“That‘s a discussion that we are having right now. I‘m supposed to meet with the people from the airport and the private sector soon to discuss the departure fees. And so whenever those discussions are completed then I will advise the media or the public.”
