Bernard Wagner Wants Endorsement, Not Convention

Bernard Wagner

Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner has gone on record to say that he would like a third term in office at the municipal level to complete various projects that began under his term as mayor. But that decision is a matter for the P.U.P.’s national party council. And while Wagner enjoys the support of some political leaders, News Five has confirmed that there are several persons who have their eyes set on the highest office at City Hall, including current councillors and a couple female hopefuls. Today when News Five caught up with Mayor Wagner we asked if he is ready for a convention in the run up to the municipal elections in March 2024. While it is a democratic process, Mayor Wagner says he wants an endorsement and not convention.

Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor

“It’s a party matter and I made how I will approach it and I have already conveyed that to the party but at the end of the day it is a party decision, in respect to how they go about it in selecting a mayor. There is a democratic process, of course, but I have already conveyed to them how I will return. And it’s up to my party; I respect my party fully.”

“So it is endorsement or convention?”

Bernard Wagner

“I can’t call that.”

Duane Moody

“But are you ready for either?”

Bernard Wagner

“No, I have made it clear that I would more than likely not go if it’s a convention.”
