Unemployed youths organize in P.G.

Story Picture
While some groups in Belize are the beneficiaries of handouts, in Toledo, a group of young people have taken their economic prosperity into their own hands. According to coordinator Ras Sherman, the group of unemployed young men and women are putting their talents to work to earn themselves a living.

Ras Sherman

“This project is a “rootical” cultural movement, in the sense of strong agriculture, strong artistical movements by creating things out of the hands, from out of coconut shells, out of wood, paintings, musical. The group is just the interest of who-so-ever individual decide to join us, it?s not like we’re just picking anybody. If you have the interest and you want to help us, you’re a part of the group. Many of the daughters down in P.G., are very creative too, they learn a lot of wood works and weaving, knitting, making straw hats, so we need more support. We need more sponsoring towards these things so that the youths can stay creative, so they can create a job for themselves.”

Contact with the group can be made through the Punta Gorda Town Board.
