Belize Broadcasting Association Seeking to Modernize Broadcasting Framework
The Belize Broadcasting Authority is on a mission to update Belize’s Broadcasting Act. The last time an exercise was held to revise the act was back in 2002. In those days, Nokia was the king of phone manufacturers. Facebook was not yet launched and people were still using antennas to catch cable TV signal. So much has changed since then, except Belize’s broadcasting regulations. As a result, B.B.A. has launched an initiative to modernize the nation’s broadcasting framework. Today, stakeholder consultations were held in Belize City.
Evan Tench, Chairman, B.B.A.
“At the Belize Broadcasting Authority we are dedicated to regulating and monitoring broadcasting services in Belize to ensure that they meet the highest standards and comply with broadcasting laws. Our aim is to produce a conducive atmosphere that produces the highest quality broadcasting services to the Belizean community while advancing the welfare of the public through the media industry. We are committed to fostering innovation, promoting competition, and protecting the rights of both viewers and broadcaster. Our values of transparency, accountability and openness guide us in creating an environment that promotes the growth of the broadcasting industry. Today’s consultation is a crucial step in our ongoing step to enhance the regulatory environment for our broadcasting sector. We recognize the broadcasting landscape has undergone significant changes in recent years driven by advances in technology, new media platform and evolving consumer behavior.”
