Another Murder in Ladyville, James Bainton is Shot & Killed

James Bainton

Another murder was recorded overnight; this time in Ladyville. The details of the tragedy are that a brawl between a pair of siblings and a group of men from the village ended with James Bainton being shot and killed; his older brother was stabbed and received cut wounds to the face, but survived. All indications are that Bainton was shot from behind on the football field near the community center in the village. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

Twenty-year-old James Bainton was at a football game being held in Ladyville, along with several others who were in attendance.  An altercation ensued between Bainton, his older brother and a group of persons. While Bainton was leaving, someone pulled out a handgun and fired a single shot that caught him in the back. Bainton was rushed to the B.D.F. Medical Facility, but was pronounced dead.

“He mi deh out mi di watch wah game and dehn say that how a lee thing happen between them, a lee argument and they fight and everything. The bwai punch he ina ih nose already. And my two neighbours dehn mi di try fi tell he come home and they grab ahn and dehn mi di run fi come home, the bwai still shoot ahn as ih turn ih back. Dehn say my older mi deh deh and he get in and the police dehn turn round and di beat my bredda after my bredda done get stab up and beat he like dog.”

Duane Moody

“Yo older bredda get stab too?”

Voice of: Sister of Deceased

“Yes, all ina his face dehn stab he with pint or something.”

The incident was witnessed by many, who ran for cover when the gunshot echoed in the area.  A cousin of the deceased says that she was at a nearby shop when she heard the shot and saw when Bainton collapsed to the ground.

Voice of: Cousin of Deceased

“From over the chiney I heard the gunshot fired and when I see over the field – because from the shop to the field, yo coulda mi see – and I see the person drop and then dehn holla that dah James drop, dehn shoot James and ih dead.”

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“Two persons were found with injuries, one stab wounds and the other one was beaten up. Those persons were taken to the hospital and moments later, police got a call of a shooting and upon arrival, they found the lifeless body of a male person. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

It’s a difficult time for the family because back in December, Bainton’s mom was also shot in the back, but survived the ordeal and is in need of medical help. Then, the patriarch of the family was buried last month. His sister tells News Five that it is a difficult time for the family, but that they want justice. To make matters worse, the alleged shooter and her now deceased brother were friends.

Voice of: Sister of Deceased

“Dah noh like if nobody noh know who kill ahn cause dah noh wah animal. Dehn done shoot my ma ina December already and dah just like ih di go just like that. The bwai done come outta jail; di pass here di grin up. And he, he dah dehn friend too. The same bwai weh shoot my bredda last night, all ah dehn dah wah group of friends and then my bredda claim dehn as friend. This bwai weh shoot my bredda, he tell me plain that bwai dah his friend and dehn dah friends fi long time and dehn bwai got his back and all kinda thing. So if somebody got your back, why as you turn your back, you wah shoot dehn. It really hurt, because we neva expect dehn fi just come and kill my bredda like dog. I understand everybody fight and nobody perfect, but why just kill ahn like that?”

ComPol Chester Williams told the media today that they are searching for the suspect.

Chester Williams

“We are sure that the shooting is as a result of the earlier fight. We are looking for one suspect at this time. The murder weapon for that has also been found, but we are still trying to find the suspect.”

Duane Moody

“…known to police?”

Chester Williams

“Yes, he’s known to police.”
