Parliament Seeks to Establish Women Caucus

In a historic move for Belize’s parliament, Minister Dolores Balderamos Garcia, the Minister of Human Development, has introduced an amendment to the standing order for a women’s caucus to be established as a joint select committee. The women’s caucus is being formed to increase the representation of women in Parliament on issues that directly affect them.

“The need for a collaborative forum for all women parliamentarian in Belize, notwithstanding political affiliation or the chambers in which they have served has been identified or the forum may facilitate networking, foster productive dialogue on issues of women’s rights and gender equality and promote the undertaking of actions to positively impact the inclusiveness of the legislator, legislative process and the country as a whole and whereas there has been a consensus among the women parliamentarian that this forum be established as a bicameral caucus of women parliamentarians.”
