Shyne Voted to Remain Party Leader Until After 2025 General Elections

Shyne Barrow

The National Party Council of the U.D.P. met on Saturday to discuss a number of issues related to the political organization moving forward.  During the meeting, a vote was also taken to determine whether Shyne Barrow should be challenged as party leader ahead of the 2025 general elections.  There was a near-unanimous decision, a majority of those who voted did so in favor of Barrow remaining leader of the party.  We also asked him about a letter sent to party chairman Mike Peyrefitte on Friday evening.  That letter was written by Collet Area Representative Patrick Faber who made claims of coercion in respective of Shyne Barrow and Ian Jones’ resignation as standard bearer.

Shyne Barrow, Party Leader, U.D.P.

“I’m extremely grateful that by a vote of a hundred and two to sixteen, there were a hundred and eighteen people in attendance, that the National Party Council, almost unanimously voted that I will remain the party leader going into the general elections and I also congratulate my deputy leaders, the party chairman and the vice chairman who were also endorsed to continue to serve the party with me.”

“The elephant in the room at this point, nonetheless, was the letter that was issued to the chairman just ahead of the NPC on Saturday.  How do you respond to the allegations that were being made insofar as you purportedly coercing the Collet area rep, in respect of the withdrawal of Ian Jones from that seat?”

Shyne Barrow

“I didn‘t see the letter so I can‘t comment on it.  But a hundred and two to sixteen is almost unanimous, it‘s more than two-thirds even.  So the statistics tell the truth of the tale.  There was no need for any coercion because a hundred and two to sixteen, you guys have always reminded me since my last convention that I only won that by three.  So now that the tables have reversed, I think it‘s only fair to accept when there is a super majority and the party loyalists, leaders, officials have all come together to agree on the way forward and that is our focus so that we can deliver in the municipal elections and deliver in the next general elections so that we can be the UDP government that the people need.”
