U.D.P. National Party Council Votes to Keep Status Quo into Elections

Michael Peyrefitte

Despite Faber’s wishes, the U.D.P’s National Party Council still went ahead and voted overwhelmingly to support Barrow’s proposal to keep the status quo within their party. The proposal, as it stood, was to keep Moses “Shyne” Barrow as its leader, First Deputy Leader, Hugo Patt, Second Deputy Leader, Senator Beverly Williams, Chairman, Senator Michael Peyrefitte and Vice Chairman, Alberto August until the next National Convention, following the general elections. So at its August convention, the leadership would simply be endorsed, as Peyrefitte indicated.

“That was the resolution that was carried. I think the NPCs position is that for the sake of stability and unity within the party, it’s best to have the leadership remain in place until at least the next general elections so we don’t have to go through those vexing, contentious, divisive conventions and voting before the next general election. So the party decided, or at least the NPC decided, that it’s in the best interest for no to have Shyne Barrow continue to be the leader of the party.”
