Melisizwe Brothers in Belize to Support Yurumein Project

They won a recording contract back in 2020 with Republic Records after winning America’s Most Musical Family, and tonight, the Melisizwe Brothers – Zacary, Seth and Marc – are in Belize performing in a series of concerts. Their participation is two-fold – to highlight the work of the Yurumein Project to preserve the intangible cultural heritage of the indigenous Garifuna people, but also to assist with raising funds for a track and field facility in southern Belize. These international musical stars have been performing all over the world and their message to Belize today was that “team work makes the dream work.”

“This is our first performance for Belize at the Civic Center, for all of the students especially. We really want to share the message that you have to find your gold mine, you have to put a lot of time and consistency, practice and we really just want to share the great message to all of the students today. And we feel that they can relate to us because they are close to our age as well and we can show them excellence and show them that it is possible to become something great.”

“We will be doing a song in Garifuna, it’s Mongulu. Mongulu is a young boy and when he grows up, he grows discipline and he comes to watch over his mother to take care of his mother when he becomes older. So his mother raises him to be a ghood young man. So yeah, I am really excited to perform this.”

“What we are doing here is great. It’s a movement and it is a collaboration with Yurumein Project and the gold mine is we just hope to inspire others to go after their dreams and their goals. So we are just being a part of that mission that collaboration to help others to achieve those things. And I am just really excited to be here and I just love, I love Belize. We always knew that we would come to Belize one day. Our dad said that it’s our home and we sincerely believe that Belize is our home. We are so glad to be here for the first time performing for everyone as well. We know there is so much to come in the future as well and we hope to continue to do work here in Belize.”
