Florencio Marin Jr.

Minister of National Defense and Border Security, Florencio Marin Junior in his presentation today spoke of projects – majority infrastructure and training – that will be taken up in the upcoming fiscal year.

Florencio Marin Jr., Area Rep., Corozal Southeast

“There are several projects planned for this financial year in line with infrastructure needs. We are planning for the renovation of the forward operating base at Sarstoon in this coming financial year. We are going to be renovating the barracks for the female soldiers of the force. This is through a generous donation of the Taiwan women initiative program. Constructing a new building at Fairweather (Camp) in the Toledo district to commence in the upcoming reporting period. We also have training coming up. Trade Winds again will be participating in Guyana. The joint readiness training center in Louisiana will host approximately 120 Belizean soldiers for a one month training package later this year in June. It will keep our soldiers at the high-level state of readiness that we are expecting of them. The British Army Training Support Unit has also extended partner training packages in our country for platoon size training teams from the BDF which will start promptly. We also have support from the US Special Forces which will commence shortly in the country for force members in preparation for their deployment to the JRTC. Forecast of events for 2023 promise to deliver over sixty military courses that will accommodate our partner agencies and, in some cases, foreign military partners.”
