Ladyville Man Jailed For Allegedly Stealing a Cell Phone While Intoxicated

Freddy Vasquez

A Ladyville man is behind bars for burglary after allegedly breaking into a home and stealing a cell phone. Freddy Vasquez is accused of entering the home of Ladyville resident Marvin Contreras where he reportedly stole a Samsung J10 cell phone valued at three hundred dollars. When Vasquez appeared before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford today, he explained that he went to visit his wife and child and got drunk. He says that he was sleeping on the verandah when he found a phone and thought that it was for his wife, but later realized that it was not hers. He went on to explain that he made attempts to return the phone but the owner called the police and he was charged with burglary. Vasquez sought leniency, but the prosecutor in the case, Sergeant Kennard Clark objected, noting that Vasquez was out on bail for a separate burglary. Sergeant Clark also requested that Vasquez’s bail for the last burglary offense be revoked.   The Senior Magistrate agreed and revoked Vasquez’s previous bail which was granted to him in October 2022.  Senior Magistrate Ford also denied him bail in this latest burglary. He was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until May twenty-second.
