11,000 Parcels of Land to be Distributed to First Time Land Owners in 2023
One of the high priority areas listed in the 2023 budget is land distribution. Prime Minister Briceño says that government is making a significant investment in the surveying of over eleven thousand parcels of land across the country that will be distributed to first-time land owners in 2023. He gave further details during his speech.
Prime Minister John Briceno
“There is one other massive, though often overlooked, antidote to poverty and that’s land, property, for those who are first time landowners. Whether for a home, a small farm or simply as an asset to be leveraged for greater financial independence, a parcel can be a gateway out of poverty. And that is why, with support from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Natural Resources, is spearheading a survey and delivering on Belize distribution program for almost eleven thousand parcels in areas of all six districts. Final surveys have been funded and are almost completed. Assigning a modest value of ten thousand per lot would mean that this program alone represents one hundred and ten million-dollar transfer of wealth to first time and qualified landowners. Now, that is truly transformational governance.”
