Fuel Price Conversation in 2023 Fiscal Year

Prime Minister John Briceño

Inside the House of Representatives, Prime Minister Briceño also spoke about the thirty million dollars lost in tax revenue from fuel in 2022. Outside of the House, reporters asked P.M. Briceño about his projections for 2023 where fuel is concerned and if Belizeans can expect to see the cost go down.

Prime Minister John Briceño

“We are hoping that the price of fuel will go down. As I mentioned, so far we have cut fuel taxes by over thirty million dollars. It hurts because there is so much we can do with that. But, at the same time we fully understand and appreciate that the people are hurting that the price of fuel is way too high for everybody. But, we can only deal with the acquisition cost and at the same time trying to find a balancing act to ensure that we cannot write off too many taxes but at the same time trying to have some sort of ceiling where we want to fuel not go above. If this year we have to continue with the cutting of taxes for fuel then we have no other choice.”
