Additional Investment in N.H.I. Carries a “Comedy of Errors” Says Opposition Leader

Shyne Barrow

And, as we told you, Prime Minister Briceño listed a number of high priority areas outlined in the 2023 budget for additional investments. Opposition Leader Shyne Barrow shared some issues he has with the additional investments being made in some of these areas, particularly where NHI and free education are concerned.

Shyne Barrow, Opposition Leader

“The seven million dollars that was put there for NHI, it is a comedy of error. You are giving people nothing, because our healthcare system is in shatters. It is not me that is saying because I am the leader of the opposition. It is what the health care professionals, public, private, health care professionals, unionist in the medical field has been protesting, complaining about for some time now. So, what does NHI really mean? It is like you are giving someone nothing, because you go to the public health care facility and they can’t treat your wounds, can’t give you gouges. I mean it so pathetic so it is not impressive to start. Again when you go to free education, I am grateful for the budget that is allotted by the Ministry of Education to the Area Reps, but these schools that they talk about on the south side which is in my constituency, students from these schools still come to me to get financial aids. So, where this free education and again education is has always been free even under the Barrow administration, but there is always this built in cost. So, even when the government says free education for these schools on the Southside, does that translate into free education.”

The budget debate is scheduled for March twenty-third and twenty-second.
