Family of Missing Hopkins Man Seeks Public Assistance To Locate Him

Marlon Martinez

The family of a twenty-four-year-old man from Hopkins Village is seeking the public’s assistance to locate him. Marlon Martinez, who is hearing- impaired, was reported missing on Monday after he failed to respond to text messages from his mother since Thursday of last week. Martinez is well known in his community and he works as a handyman in the village. At times he would also work on fishing boats with relatives. Now, his family is clueless as to his whereabouts and with every passing day their concerns continue to grow. We spoke with one of his relatives over the phone.

“It was on Sunday when his mom messaged him and he didn’t respond. Every other day they would communicate and she had gotten in contact with him the Thursday, no response, Friday, no response, Saturday, no response, and it was then that she got really worried about him. She couldn’t sleep on Sunday, calling around and doing their own investigation, but to no avail. So, that is when it became really alarming to her that up to Sunday he hadn’t gotten back to her.”

“And this is concerning for the family because it is unlikely for him correct?”

On the phone: Mary Martinez

“Exactly, it is very very unlikely. He would always communicate with someone in the family, especially if he received a text message. He would text back, because Marlon is deaf so he would wear his hearing aid. So you know, he would reply back through texting but not even that has been happening up to now. Marlon does love fishing. He is a fisherman and a driver. He is a handy man for the village but unfortunately no one has given any report of him being out at sea, going with any of the family members that he would normally do. All those that have been contacted, no one have given any information about Marlon. So, again this is causing the alarm. We are pleading with the general public to please give his mom Lavern a phone call if anybody has seen him somewhere in the country or heard anything. Her sleepless nights, if anyone knows anything about him please give Lavern a call at six three xix seven nine five one.”
