B.D.F Captain Allegedly Assaults Lieutenant; B.D.F Investigates

Brigadier-General Azariel Loria

A Belize Defense Force captain finds himself in all kinds of trouble with his job and with the law after he allegedly assaulted a lieutenant in the force. The incident happened on Monday at Fairweather Camp in the Toledo District, where the inebriated captain pounced on his junior, who has also filed a police report. Today Brigadier-General of the B.D.F, Commandant Azariel Loria told News Five about the upsetting report that landing on his desk.

Brigadier-General Azariel Loria, Commandant, B.D.F.

“I got a call last night, sometime at our, around seven p.m., or our military time, about nineteen hundred hours last night. It so happens that we have a lieutenant, well we had him under rehabilitation because of alcohol. Has also undergoing counseling at the First Wellness Center, but he was discharged, but sometime ago, I believe that he has relapsed. He went on a drunken spree as I was told. Eventually he got into a fight whilst at Fairweather Camp that is down in the Toledo District. I’m very sorry, the officer is a captain in rank. The captain aggressed the lieutenant. Both of them were off-duty and it is allowed, if they are off-duty, that they both could drink or consume alcohol, but what is not allowed is the fighting. It transitioned into an altercation thereafter, but the situation is now with the police. And that is something that the P.G. Police is now dealing with. When something like this occurs, the offender is given a cautionary statement. Reports are written and it goes in front of a summary tribunal where the company command tries him and if he is unfit to provide a verdict. It is, the case is remanded, but in the case of officers, it is remanded all the way to me, where I in turn will do a summary trial to find if he is guilty or not, if the individual is guilty or not.”
