B.D.F Commandant: Sarstoon Flare-Ups Have Waned; F.O.B To Be Repaired
As Belize prepares to present its case to the International Court of Justice at the Peace Palace in The Hague, flare-ups along the Sarstoon River, usually caused by Guatemalan military personnel, have reportedly waned. That’s according to B.D.F Commandant, Brigadier-General, Azariel Loria who spoke with the media today.
Brigadier-General Azariel Loria, Commandant, B.D.F
“Everything is quiet. The Guatemala arm forces are respectful, mind you that they are still at the mouth of the Sarstoon on the other side of the river, and we’re on our side of the river. It’s a bit quiet. The F.O.B is there and I believe it’ll be revamped in the near future.”

“Repaired?”
Brigadier-General Azariel Loria
“And repaired Yes, with a, with a, um, a brand new building and a resilient building. Yeah, but that will cost some money, some funds that the Ministry of National Defense is trying to get from within the government, but that will be reconstructed.”

“So as we move – both countries move to settling or dispute at the I.C.J, there have been no flare ups lately?”
Brigadier-General Azariel Loria
“No, there have not been flare ups in that region, and as a matter of fact, I believe it’ll be next week that we’re going to do our trimester meetings with the Guatemalans, and we’re going to plan our operations, how we’re going to link up or, or do operations along the border for the coming three months.”
