Belize City Street Repairs To Prioritize New Areas

Bernard Wagner

Repairs to Belize City’s road infrastructure continue to be carried out in phases. Mayor Bernard Wagner explained that there is a list of streets that will be prioritized in the coming weeks and months, including quite a few on the south side.

Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor

“We have a robust street, street plan over 90 streets to be rehabilitated either by way of concreting, either by way of chip and seal or by the hardcore material. I will share that with you all very shortly, but it’s a robust plan. If you visit the Rocky Road area that has been concreted, Berkeley Street has been concreted. We are now starting Church Street from the bridge to Glyn Street. We have Prince Street, we have Bishop Street – all of those streets will be concreted. We have some in the King’s Park area as well. We have ripped those streets, they are ready for Chip and Seal. It’s a whole bunch of streets we’ll be doing because we understand that quality of life is important. People want to walk on a decent street, motorists want to drive on a decent street. So we know that has been some measure of our Achilles heal, so we want to address those issues.”

“You have those once- paved roads in the Collet area that are now dirt roads.”

“The Antelope Street Extension? Yes, that will be chip and seal fully. That is within our plan.”

Meanwhile, the mayor said that the Holy Emmanuel Street project still has a way to go with the installation of sidewalks, a parking bay, and green spaces. He said that these works will be done before the city acquires electric buses to replace the diesel ones running the different routes.
