Bus Operators to Meet with N.T.U.C.B. Tonight Over Current State in Bus Industry

The press release that the Belize Bus Association demanded the Ministry of Transport to circulate by day’s end on Wednesday, summarizing the points on which they have come to an agreement, has still not gone out. B.B.A. President Thomas Shaw warned that the association would not go silent if their agreement is not met.  The B.B.A. is planning a meeting with the National Trade Union Congress of Belize tonight. News Five understands that the meeting is to brief the umbrella organization on the points which have been agreed upon, as well as the association’s plan if the ministry does not keep its end of the bargain as the industry transitions. We will have more on tonight’s meeting in Friday’s newscast. Meanwhile, the Belize Progressive Party, B.P.P., issued a release of its own today, applauding the parties involved in the negotiations for improvement of the bus industry. B.P.P. also appeals for a long-term senior loan with revolving credit to be created, at two percent interest, pointing to the assistance that the Inter-American Development Bank has lent to other sectors in Belize. The B.P.P expressed its support for an improved bus industry, and asked for a fair play for the bus operators.
