Businessman Robbed in Belize City; Cops Recover Stolen Money, Phone

Fitzroy Yearwood

On Sunday, there was a brazen robbery of a businessman on Mahogany Street Extension in Belize City and it was allegedly committed by minors.  Police say that the forty-two-year-old was sitting inside his vehicle when he was accosted by armed gunmen on bicycles. They stole two thousand dollars in cash and a phone. Quick response from police led to the detention of two minors who fit the description of the muggers. And it would appear that the police were right on the money because they also recovered the stolen items. Up to the time of the interview, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood says that the minors had not been charged.

“They arrived at his vehicle on bicycle and they demanded that he handed over money and personal properties. Fearing for his life, he handed over to them about two thousand dollars in cash and his iPhone fourteen. Police in that area conducted an immediate search on Mango Street in the Saint Martin’s De Porres area where two minors were present at the time of the search. Police were able to recover a black air pistol that they believe was used in the orchestration of that crime and also they were able to confiscate clothing that resemble what was described by the culprits that committed that robbery. Police also recovered about sixteen hundred dollars in cash and they got back the iPhone. We have these persons detained at this time. I am not certain when charges will be levelled against them, but as soon as I know, you will know.”
