When Will the Whistleblowers Act be Enacted?
On Wednesday, the union leaders called for the Government to legislate the Whistleblower’s Act. This would allow public officers to expose – without fear of victimization – any act of corruption by politicians and any senior government officials. The C.E.O. of the Ministry of Public Service confirmed that that bill was tabled, but that was all he could say about it.
Rolando Zetina, C.E.O., Ministry of Public Service
“I think it is still a bill. I think there are two bills that have been presented to the House [of Representatives] – the whistleblowers act and the other that has to do with how you acquire your property. When that bill passes, you will have to explain how you acquire your wealth. I cannot speak on where we are because I am not really involved at that level. But the good governance unit is working along with parliament to bring it into implementation as soon as possible.”
