A collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck during the lunch hour on Wednesday claimed the life of the motorcycle driver, thirty-seven-year-old Jacob Giesbrecht, of Unitedville. The incident has shocked Giesbrecht’s employers, the owners of Excel Construction Ltd. Menno and Sara Loewen told News Five he was with their company for three years. They recall that he would always try to motivate and push others towards excellence.

Menno Loewen, Owner, Excel Construction Ltd.

“He was our top mechanic here. He did the – he rebuilt our engines and with computers he could diagnose our excavators and loaders, so when the workers would report that an engine or a machine was down, they would call him and he would go and fix it so, yeah he was the guy who would go and fix everything.”

Sara Loewen, Co-owner, Excel Construction Ltd.

“He was always cheerful and had such a positive word to say to all of the employees. It is such a big loss to all the employees and we are still all in shock. And every day he would say we can do this. We can do this. And there is nobody to replace what he did in our company. We will be forever grateful.”

Giesbrecht had left to pick up lunch and was returning to work to repair another machine when he lost his life. Sara Loewen told us that they helped celebrate Giesbrecht’s thirty-seventh birthday only last week, and he was in top spirits.

Sara Loewen

“He said he had a goal to make the business better. Wow! He said I will make the business better, whatever makes it better.”

The Belize Police Department has not yet released details of the incident. Jacob Giesbrecht will be laid to rest on Sunday in Spanish Lookout. Marion Ali for News Five.
