S.S.B. Donates $25K to Gift of Life Program
Today, the Social Security Board donated twenty-five thousand dollars to the Rotary Club of Belize to assist with the Gift of Life Program. The Rotary Club plans to use the donation to help in the provision of semi-annual clinics as well as the costs associated with surgeries and specialized care for children with congenital defects. News Five was on hand for the check handing over.
Mowava Fuller, Corporate Relations Officer, S.S.B.
“We remain committed to ensuring that social protection is provided in times of vulnerability and that is exactly what we’ve done here today through our partnership with Gift of Life. They stand on the same premise that we do to ensure that social protection is attained and to protect those in their vulnerable moments. As you can imagine, some of these families when they have learnt of some of the difficult diagnosis that their children are suffering from congenital defects; these are hard pills to swallow.”
Maria Price, District Governor Elect, Rotary Club
“That donation really supports us tremendously. If we are averaging between thirteen to sixteen children sending them away for surgery, obviously tat costs a lot of money. There are expenses involved in not only the travel, but accommodation, hosting them. They’re away for a minimum of a month and a half when they go away. Yes we do have other rotary clubs who support us by maybe trying to host them, but there are some expenses. The hospitals over there are the ones who really take a toll because they sponsor the surgeries free of cost and those surgeries are tremendously expenses.”
