Fifteen Million U.S Dollar Loan Motion For Development of M.S.M.E.’s and Small Farmers
The third and final loan motion tabled inside the National Assembly today is a fifteen million U.S. dollar I.D.B. loan for the development of M.S.M.E.’s and small farmers. P.M. Briceño says the monies will be used to strengthen the capacities of small business owners and farmers in a manner that is sustainable and inclusive. Here is how he puts it.
Prime Minister John Briceño
“As I mentioned earlier and we spoke about it earlier about the small people, the MSMEs. My administration is committed to doing all it can to improve small businesses or MSME or small farmer’s competitiveness. A lot of times small farmers are not competitive enough. It is not only about being competitive. They need to be climate resilient which looks at how it is that they can plant with the climate changes we are now facing and at the same time being environmentally sustainable. Through this loan government will provide direct support to farmers, Agriculture groups and small businesses for sustainable and inclusive development. Farmers will receive capacity development in farm management that will include deliberation in implementation of farm plans.”
Patrick Faber, Area Representative, Collet
“We cannot on this side argue about the intent of this loan motion. I think it is something that is very needed for our farmers to be productive and do more sustainable, climate friendly farming. I thank the PM for his explanation because it was helpful. I heard him say there is going to be technical support training which is very important, financial training which is very important.”
