The Service of William Dawson Acknowledged by House of Representatives

The late William Dawson was recognized in the House of Representatives for his stellar service to marginalized communities and at-risk youths. All members of the House of Representative stood to their feet and gave a standing ovation to Dawson, following a speech from Prime Minister Briceño acknowledging Dawson’s life.

“Last week Belize lost someone special. We lost an unsung hero. I got to meet William Dawson just once, during our recent Cabinet retreat. Mr. Dawson was so frail that he couldn’t even stand for long. So, we had to give him a chair where he sat and spoke with us with all the passion hiss ailing body could offer about his work. Mr. Dawson frail as he was told us about the program he was engaged in with the police to help at risk young men and women who were being lured into gang lifestyle. In his brief intervention he was very clear that this was no ordinary Belizean but one who truly cared for others. None of us in this room suspected that Mr. Dawson who so impressed us would have passed away so shortly after he spoke to us. In fact we wanted his efforts to be successful and even gave him our full support. I am told Mr. Dawson dedicated his entire adult life to public service. I ask everyone to stand up and to join me in a standing ovation for William Dawson.”
